How WAL and Argo plasma changed my legs

My name is Sylvie, and two months ago, I underwent my first surgery to remove some of the lipoedema fat from my body. The procedure targeted the front and sides of my thighs, as well as the backs of my calves. In total, nearly 5 litres of ‘sick fat’ were removed during my first-ever WAL liposuction, which took place at the GIA Clinic in the Czech Republic. The surgeon Dr Jiřina Šilhánková and her team used the innovative body-jet® from HUMAN MED® for my WAL liposuction.

My thighs (especially the front) were the most affected by lipoedema, so the majority of the fat removal focused on that area. I was stage 2 in this area before the surgery.

To help prevent loose or sagging skin, I opted to have Argon Plasma treatment immediately following the liposuction, which helps to firm and tighten the skin.

What are WAL liposuction and body-jet®?

The innovative body-jet® from HUMAN MED® employs the gentle power of water-jet-assisted liposuction. Unlike traditional liposuction methods, the body-jet® uses a gentle jet of water to simultaneously dislodge and remove fat from the body, while sparing blood vessels, nerves, and surrounding tissue.

The gentle water jet helps to break down fibrous lipoedema fat deposits, allowing for a more thorough and less traumatic removal. By supporting the lymphatic system during the procedure, WAL helps reduce swelling and pain.

Why Choose WAL?

For patients with lipoedema, WAL is an excellent option as it offers a less invasive approach, helps to alleviate discomfort, and improves the quality of life by addressing fat accumulation effectively. It also helps conserve the lymphatic system without being too invasive and is recommended for treating lipedema.

This is one of the reasons I chose Jiřina Šilhánková, for her expertise, her use of the WAL technique, and the option to have the Argo Plasma treatment as part of the procedure.

What is Argo plasma?

Argon plasma is an advanced technique that enables surgeons to tighten the skin immediately after liposuction. It combines radiofrequency energy with ionised argon gas to firm and smooth loose skin.

The radiofrequency energy is delivered through a stream of ionised argon gas, creating a plasma field that precisely heats the underlying tissues. This controlled heating causes the collagen fibres to contract, leading to immediate skin tightening and enhanced skin tone.

Why choosing certified systems matters?

Not all liposuction or skin-tightening devices are created equal. The body-jet system is the original WAL system developed by HUMAN MED® in Germany, with safety, precision, and lymphatic preservation at its core.

Likewise, Argo Plasma is a CE-marked device, offering controlled, minimally invasive skin contraction through argon gas and radiofrequency. Choosing clinics and surgeons who use these certified systems ensures a safer, more effective treatment.

What surprised me the most following this procedure?

Like many others, I had read and watched countless testimonials from fellow lipoedema heroes who had undergone the same liposuction procedure. I was advised to buy some large pads to protect my bed from any post-operative bleeding, so I made sure to prepare in advance.

To my surprise, when I woke up, there was no bleeding at all thanks to the Argo Plasma technique. It had already helped to tighten my skin, and my incisions were carefully stitched. This made the whole experience much less scary and far easier to manage, especially as I’d been quite nervous about having to deal with bleeding and everything that might come with it.

What is WAL liposuction and argo plasma recovery like?

I was also pleasantly surprised by how quickly my body recovered from the WAL liposuction. I noticed changes week by week, which was incredibly encouraging. Of course, there was some discomfort and pain, but far less than I had expected. Even during my lymphatic drainage sessions or when putting my compression garment back on, I didn’t experience any unbearable pain. Three days after my liposuction, I even managed to walk 30min and go up and down some stairs.

I started noticing significant changes around week four! Before that, I had quite a bit of oedema and a few seromas, but these gradually reduced over time with the help of regular lymphatic drainage massages.

Thanks to the minimally invasive nature of WAL and the added skin-tightening from Argo Plasma, my recovery was faster and less painful than expected

Today, at two months post-op, my skin looks so much smoother. All my bruising had disappeared by week four, and although I’m still holding on to a bit of excess water, my legs already look completely different from before the surgery. My skin feels firm and looks tight, which is such a positive change.

Of course, I know my legs will never be ‘perfect’,but I’m already genuinely happy with the results. I’m slowly regaining my confidence and starting to feel like myself again!

I am excited to see how my legs will feel and look by month three.
